Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on March 26th, 1991. She's an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. In October 21st, 2016 she dropped Pho, her first EP on the label Dreamville Records. That was the day she first gained the attention of her peers. Shea Butter Baby released her debut studio album on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music on the internet in 2012 as she released her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography in 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox continued to post her songs online, including her independent single Bound. In 2015, she was featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat it out on 21st July. J. Cole had her send her songs for the Dreamville Team in the following year as he wanted Rihanna to collaborate alongside her on some of the songs. The official signing ceremony was held with Dreamville Records on 8 December. Backseat was her contribution to The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. Her Pho EP was released on her debut EP on Oct 21 the 21st of October, 2016. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performer to J. Cole on his single Change in 2017 and also was a part of the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. She also appeared in 2018 on two tracks with her label-mates EarthGang to Nothing but the Best. and Bas On Icarus. On July 16 2018 Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream of her album debut Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video, which was released on the 5th of September. On the 9th of November 2018, she released another two singles, titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). On November 13 the singer released two new singles titled One and Pdigree. One as well as Pdigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang together with Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on November 16th. The track was released as a standalone single in February of 2019 to coincide with her debut album. A music video debuted on February 20, 2019 to accompany the track. Within one period of a week, the video had more than 3 million views. She was part of 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December 2018.
