Selena

She was a designer, singer and performer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. She was a contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American star who bound together both genres with a unique approach. She also provided incredible Tejano music to a mass public. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, as often happens when a glowing, charming star dies far too young left many to mourn all the untapped potential. In order to prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten her many admirers over the last few years have been motivated to do even more. The tragic shooting death of Selena provoked a response from the Latino Community, similar as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The music of Selena a singer who was hugely successful across Latino communities throughout North America touched people young as well as old. Selena was an asexual and flamboyant stage performer and was often known as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
