Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began covering for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and arms control. She traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues like the Iran Contra controversy.
